Amani Mustafa Mhinda is a seasoned legal and political economy expert with over 24
years of experience advancing Africa’s development agenda. His academic journey spans the
University of Cairo (LLB, BA African Studies), the University of Nairobi (LLM), and postgraduate training in mining, oil, and gas from Ghana, Australia, South Africa, and Norway. Amani’s expertise lies at the intersection of energy sector governance, climate action, development finance, trade, and investment. Until recently, I was working as Executive Director at the Ikaya Institute for Pan-African Policy based in Lusaka, Zambia, focusing on economic foresight. feminist economy, trade and energy sector policy

From 2024 to 2025, he served as Bureau Chief for East and Southern Africa at AfriCatalyst, a global development advisory firm. The role included regional market entry strategy, project development, fundraising, training and stakeholder relations. Prior to that, between 2020 and 2024, Amani was Africa Program Manager at the Open Society Foundations, where he led complex, multi-country grant making on fiscal justice, natural resource governance, social policy, and climate action across 17 African countries. Between (2000–2020), Amani played a leading role in Tanzania’s civil society, championing policy reforms in mining, oil, and gas. He was instrumental in shaping national and regional frameworks for transparency and accountability, contributing to global platforms such as the Tanzania Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (TEITI), Publish What You Pay (PWYP),
Fairtrade Africa Gold Project, and the ntergovernmental Forum on Small-Scale Mining. His
leadership in these initiatives reflects his ability to manage complex projects, build coalitions, and influence policy at both national and international levels. In addition to his technical and policy expertise, Amani is certified in Global Executive Leadership Coaching (ICF), Organizational Development Practice, and Emotional Intelligence
(Genos).
